A deck that performs well is engineered before it's designed
Decking that warps, bounces, becomes slippery, or starts to rot within a few years is almost always the result of poor subframe construction. The visible decking boards are the last part of the job — what matters is what's beneath them: correctly spaced joists, adequate ventilation to prevent moisture build-up, appropriate joist hangers and fixings, and a frame that's level, square and built to take the load it will receive.
We build in all materials: pressure-treated softwood for projects where budget leads; hardwood and sustainably sourced timber for durability and appearance; composite decking for low maintenance; and Millboard — a premium capped composite that looks convincingly like real hardwood without the maintenance. Every project is fully quoted and agreed before work begins.
Landscaping consultation is £50 + VAT, deducted from the project cost if you proceed. We'll visit, take measurements, and discuss the right material and layout for your space.

Pressure-Treated Timber Decking
Pressure-treated softwood is the practical starting point for most decking projects. The timber is kiln-dried and impregnated with preservative under pressure, giving it significantly better resistance to rot and insect damage than untreated wood. It needs periodic treatment with decking oil or stain to maintain its appearance, but when built and maintained correctly it will perform well for many years. We use C24 structural grade timber for joists and posts.

Hardwood Decking
Hardwood decking — iroko, ipe, balau, garapa — is denser, harder wearing, and longer lived than softwood. It requires less maintenance, weathers beautifully to a silver-grey if left untreated, or can be oiled to retain its original colour. We source FSC-certified hardwood and can advise on the right species for your project based on the budget, the look you want, and the level of maintenance you're prepared to commit to.

Composite Decking
Composite decking is manufactured from a blend of wood fibre and recycled plastic, giving it better resistance to moisture, splitting, fading and staining than natural timber. It requires no oiling or staining — a wash down once or twice a year is all it needs. We install composite from a range of manufacturers and can advise on the product that best suits your project in terms of performance, appearance and budget.

Millboard Decking
Millboard is a premium capped composite product that closely replicates the look and texture of real hardwood while requiring almost no maintenance. It's manufactured in England, is non-splintering, slip-resistant even when wet, and carries a 25-year warranty. It's the decking we recommend when clients want the appearance of hardwood without the maintenance commitment. We are experienced in Millboard installation and follow the manufacturer's recommended fixing methods throughout.
