August Garden Tips: Make the Most of the Rest of Summer

July and August are when gardens look their very best but also when they need the most attention to stay
that way. Here are our top tips for keeping things looking great through the summer months.

01 Keep on top of mowing – but don’t scalp

Mow regularly but raise the blade slightly in summer. Longer grass stays greener and more drought-resistant. Aim for 3- 4 cm rather than cutting right down.

02 Water deeply, not frequently

A long, slow watering every 2-3 days is far better than a quick splash each morning. Deep watering
encourages roots to grow downward, making plants far more resilient.

03 Deadhead to keep the colour coming

Removing spent flowers from roses, dahlias, and bedding plants encourages new blooms. It takes 10
minutes and keeps the colour going right through to September.

04 Don’t neglect your raised beds

Summer is peak growing season. Keep on top of watering; raised beds dry out faster than ground-level
planting and feed every 7-14 days to keep things thriving.

05 Think about autumn now

The best time to plan a garden project is before you need it done. If you’re thinking about new paving,
raised beds, or a full garden transformation, book your consultation now while slots are still available.
